2015 Vadiaperti Falanghina, Campania
The Troisi family have a long history of tending vines in their local region of Irpinia.  A combination of altitude (350-650m), volcanic tufo soils and local grapes like this falanghina, produce harmonious, exciting wines, each with their own gentle expression.  This white has an upfront richness that is reined in with puckering tension, signing off with a saline, tangy finish.

2015 Alessandro di Camporeale Benede Catarratto, Sicily
Winemakers, Natale and Benedetto Alessandro were also grape growers before they established their winery in 2000.  Their estate in northern Sicily sits at 300 metres and is focused heavily on indigenous varieties, like this popular Sicilian white variety, catarratto.   Sprightly acidity is cushioned by a core of stonefruit and smokey tones.  Subtle herbal notes add complexity to the fresh and salivating palate.

2013 Riofavara San Basilio Nero d’Avola, Sicily
Based in the south of Sicily near Ragusa, the Padova family have been growing grapes for over a century.  Their local knowledge of the lay of the land is transparent in their wines’ unique personalities.  This nero d’avola is like no other we have tasted, shedding its common comparison to shiraz.  While it has voluptuous structure like shiraz, this beautiful sanguine wine offers notes of plums, earth and juicy raspberries.

2014 Fessina Erse Etna Rosso, Sicily
A blend of native Sicilian grapes nerello mascalese and nerello cappuccio, this nervy red has an energetic thread of acidity and an alluring mix of spice and wet earth tempered by crunchy red fruits.  Grown on the volcanic incline of Mt Etna on south facing slopes, a pedigreed edge can be seen in the wine, thanks to winemaker Federico Curtaz (ex- Gaja).
