‘There are many pedigreed wines in the world, but some rise above that level and move into the stratosphere of the truly iconic. Montevertine’s Le Pergole Torte is one of those’ Antonio Galloni, vinous.com

The wines of Montevertine sing of purity and place. Founded by visionary Sergio Manetti who was strongly influenced by iconic Italian winemaker, Giulio Gambelli, Montevertine creates some of the most tactile and sensual expressions of sangiovese. Located in one of the original towns of Chianti, Radda, the current guardian of the estate is Martino Manetti, Sergio’s son.

Martino Manetti has changed little since taking over, a few tweaks here and there maybe. His deep respect for his father, Gambelli and the estate is evident in the continuity of all the wines. These wines are full of charisma, character and a touch of cheek. They speak of their vintage and their piece of Chianti Classico, Radda. While Pian del Ciampolo drinks beautifully upon release, both Montevertine & Pergole Torte will reward with some time in the cellar. So dense and tightly wound is the palate, with age they gracefully unfurl.

2015 is a wonderfully ripe vintage, saved by a hot dry summer. Yields were down due to hailstorms, and the wines are deeply concentrated and fresh. Likewise, 2016 is another great vintage with lifted top notes and a lick more nerve than 2015.

We have received a small allocation of these rare wines. Please email us your wish list and we’ll do our best to fill it.

2016 2016 Pian del Ciampolo
~sangiovese dominant with canaiolo and colorino

‘…exudes class and a level of delineation that distinguishes it stylistically (but not qualitatively) from the 2015. Fresh and beautifully nuanced, the 2016 hits all the right notes. A closing burst of lavender, rose petal and mint punctuates the vibrant finish.’ Antonio Galloni, January 2018

2015 Montevertine
~ sangiovese

‘Rich, pliant and super-expressive, the 2015 Montevertine is shaping up to be a magnificent wine. There is a radiance to the 2015 that is impossible to miss. At the same time, it’s wonderfully polished, with more than enough freshness and overall structure to support many years of exceptional drinking. Red stone fruit and expressive floral notes give the wine much of its distinctive personality. The 2015 Montevertine is a real head-turner.
Antonio Galloni, January 2018

2015 Le Pergole Torte
~sangiovese. Le Pergole loosely translates as ‘the crooked pergolas’. This is a selection of the estates best fruit, fermented in cement then aged for a year in French oak followed by another year in cask.

‘… explosive and powerful while showing a remarkable level of precision. Pliant and beautifully resonant, it captures all the best qualities of the year. The oak still needs time to fully assimilate. Even so, the wine’s pedigree and potential are very much in evidence today. In a word: superb.’ Antonio Galloni, January 2018
