The sun’s out and yet again we’ve taken delivery of some top quality gins to quench our insatiable thirst. Whether you prefer to drink locally with a cracking new release from CWS favourite Melbourne Gin Co, or prefer a challenge like the Del Professore Madame & Monsieur, we’ve got you covered.

Melbourne Gin Co. Single Shot Gin (700ml) –  $93
It took 5 years of distillation to get it right, but the finished product speaks for itself, the new ‘Single Shot’ dry gin from Melbourne Gin Co. is worth the wait. As the name suggests, MGC single shot is made, rather uncommonly, using a single run of the still, making it a little hazey when mixed into a drink. . Australian bergamot, cardamom, leatherwood honey, lavender, and of course juniper are macerated all together in the pot before being distilled in a single run, (or shot). The result is an intense juniper focused citrus driven dry gin. Approachable, textured and bursting with flavour, MGC single shot is refined enough for a martini and perfect in a gin and tonic.

Four Pillars Christmas Gin (700ml) – $99 offer ($110 retail)
The third release of the Christmas Gin is a heady evocative drop. Distilled with Christmas puddings in the mix and finished off with a generous splash of Rutherglen Classic Muscat, expect lashings of gingerbread, woody spices and citrus.

Dodd’s Kew Organic Gin 46% (700ml) – $87
A collaboration between Dodd’s and the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew UK, which is home to the largest collection of rare and treasured plants in the world.  Less juniper led than Dodd’s, this delicious gin has five types of citrus (lemon, lime, pink grapefruit peel, orange peel and bergamot peel) and a selection of organic plants from the garden including santolina, rosemary, lavender, galangal and passionflower. A firm staff favourite! Includes a beautiful gift box for the constant gardener.

Del Professore Gin

The Jerry Thomas Speakeasy Bar in Rome is a must visit when you’re next in the Eternal City. Their encyclopaedic knowledge will stand your drinking needs in good stead! The tenders behind the Project began crafting their own vermouths and spirits in 2013 and following on from their original conception of the bar, they’re bold, unique and of the highest standard.

Classified as ‘bathtub’ gins, a reference the prohibition era where spirits of poor quality were simply distilled at home, the team at Jerry Thomas use ingredients of the highest quality, making gin of substance and texture. The Monsieur has a more classical juniper and citrus flavour profile, whilst the Madame shows the added complexity of cinnamon, vanilla and rose. Neither are coarsely filtered therefore have an amber hue.

Stellacello Pompelmo 500ml, London – $67
This was their first foray into alchemy and what a cracking start, taking inspiration from the homemade Limoncello of Joe’s youth, this is unlike anything else. Pink grapefruit peel is macerated in neutral spirit for up to 2 months, however it is Stella’s family members back in Melbourne that provide the secrets to the final product. As versatile as it is unique.

Stellacello Amaro 500ml, London – $67
After many years of trial and error, this second release amaro came out last year. The Stellas had gone on ‘sabbatical’ to Italy, to better understand how to perfect their sourcing of amaro ingredients locally in Bethnal.  This has been a catalyst for new creative dimension to the regionally inspired amaros of the motherland.

Allies Cinq a Sept Vermouth, Mornington – $47
Cinq a Sept is the French term referencing everyone’s favourite time of day ~ the aperitif!  Talented winemaker Dave ‘Chappy’ Chapman of Allies has produced this seductive vermouth, fortifying pinot noir then steeping rosemary, thyme, lemon thyme, grapefruit, and orange to name but some. The result is vibrant red fruits, followed by complex aromas and flavours of the botanicals, with a pleasing amaro like bitter finish. Negroni time!
