Pergole Torte, the flagship wine of Montevertine is one of Italy’s best. On the recently released 2016 Antonio Galloni remarked ‘an early candidate for the wine of the vintage, the 2016 Pergole Torte is simply off the charts. Readers will find a potent, virile wine in need of serious cellaring.’
Montevertine creates some of the most tactile and sensual expressions of sangiovese. Credit goes to its founding visionary, Sergio Manetti who was strongly influenced by iconic Italian winemaker, Giulio Gambelli. Located in one of the original towns of Chianti, Radda, the current guardian of the estate is Martino Marnetti, Sergio’s son.
Martino Manetti has changed little since taking over, a few tweaks here and there maybe. His deep respect for his father, Gambelli and the estate is evident in the continuity of all the wines. These wines are full of charisma, character and a touch of cheek. They speak of their vintage and their piece of Chianti Classico, Radda.
‘There are many pedigreed wines in the world, but some rise above that level and move into the stratosphere of the truly iconic. Montevertine’s Le Pergole Torte is one of those’ — Antonio Galloni
