Prüm sits at the pinnacle of the Mosel hierarchy, they are masters at crafting electrically charged rieslings. With the anticipation of each vintage, you never quite know what to expect ~ here’s where the excitement lies.

One thing’s for sure, the rieslings of Prüm age beautifully. They majestically carry their grace and potency throughout life. When young, they are energetic and statically composed. With age, they develop texture and honeyed tones. As with all good things, these wines are incredibly rare. Trying to get your hands on a bottle or two is becoming harder each year.

Soaring demand worldwide coupled with lower 2017 yields make these sought after wines even harder to find. Allocations are minuscule.

2017 Vintage ~ Although it was an early harvest, a cooler June evoked sweeping lines of acidity. Rain combined with a warm July/August brought about clean and pure botrytis. The grapes were deliciously ripe and fresh, however yields were down as a result of both hail and frost.

‘2017 offers everything – elegance, bright acidity, beautiful fruit and minerality. Pure expressions of vineyards’ Katharina Prüm

These rare and revered rieslings imbue some of the purest expressions we have tasted, especially in 2017. Here’s what you’ll love about the vintage:

~ The acidity on all these wines is a standout. Integrated and supportive, the wines flow beautifully, brimming with freshness and power.
~ The purity across the board is stunning.
~ These are wines for the long haul, especially from Auslese level and up.
~ The personality of each vineyard holds true; Graacher Himmelreich is lacy and delicately composed while Wehlener Sonnenuhr is bold yet compact requiring time to coax out its inner workings.

These wines are rare. We have a small allocation. If you’d like to buy some for your cellar please don’t hesitate. Send us an email with your wish list and we’ll be in touch to confirm.

With the low yields and intensity of 2017 favouring the Spätlese and Auslese brackets, not much Kabinett was made. A little denser given the warmer vintage it’s open nature is inviting and deliciously rewarding.

2017 Graacher Himmelreich Kabinett $73
Wonderfully lifted, with floral perfumes and orchard fruit notes. Fresh and integrated acidity

More weight and intensity here than the Kabinett-level wines, though not necessarily more overt sweetness. Excellent transparency and expression of place, alongside more savoury depth. In 2017 it’s the extraordinary intensity, purity and expression of the wines that hits you first.

2017 Bernkasteler Badstube Spätlese $84
~ Open, bright and red fruited with mountain spice lift…trickling acidity

2017 Graacher Himmelreich Spätlese $92
~ Pure elegance … racy, coiled acidity and stony-floral tones

2017 Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Spätlese $90
~ Compact and savoury, packed with dense yellow fruit… stone, blackcurrant leaf and zingy freshness

2017 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spätlese $106
~ Thrilling, mouth coating wine of juicy citrus and stone fruit tapering to an incredibly long, outstanding finish

Riper, more defined and intense, rather than simply more overtly sweet. They are ultra pure and ultra fine, too fine for sweet desserts. Serve them savoury food (cheese, Chinese and Japanese cuisines work beautifully)

2017 Bernkasteler Badstube Auslese $107
~ Incredible lightness…crushed rock, honey and grass tones

2017 Graacher Himmelreich Auslese $111
~ Riper more tropical tones…energetic and zesty acidity

2017 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese $132
~ Evocative, dense, and confident. Incredible unfurling texture, needs time. Very exciting future ahead.

‘Limited edition, very small production – parcels of the best Auslese of the vintage. They are made from stronger, selected grapes containing higher concentrated juice, usually affected by a certain amount of botrytis, capable of ageing even remarkably longer than basic Auslesen, lasting for many decades.’ Katharina Prüm

2017 Graacher Himmelreich Auslese Goldkapsel $241
~ Silky, salivating acidity with a burst of tingly fresh pineapple and orange scented florals

2017 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese Goldkapsel $268
~ buzzing with compact tension and mineral vitality… dense yet ultra-pure finish

The 2017 vintage marks the first ever trade release of J.J. Prüm’s legendary Auslese Long Goldkap category. Such wines—made in tiny quantities—have previously only been made available to those who attended the annual VDP Mosel auction in Trier.

Often made with a higher degree of botrytis than the straight Goldkap wines, the style could be described as bridging a gap between traditional Goldkap and Beerenauslese

2017 Bernkasteler Lay Auslese Long Goldkapsel (375ml) $212
~ Magical…incredible detail, purity, aromatic complexity and finesse….superlative wine with all the savoury, sweet, and floral woven together beautifully.

1999 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Beerenauslese (375ml) $402
~ Spellbinding. So much power and intensity, yet so ethereal. Loaded with sweet spice tones ~ honey and crème caramel. The cushioned core is deep and dense, with some fresh acidity supporting.
