‘…2015’s I tasted were of transcendent quality.’ Antonio Galloni

We’re very happy to offer you one of the Volnay greats, Marquis d’Angerville from the exemplary 2015 vintage. Wine writer Allan Meadows sums up the 15’s nicely, ‘…ripe yet fresh and harmonious.’ Unfortunately yields are down, a result of the accumulated vine stress from hail damage in 2012, 2013 & 2014 coupled with a very dry growing season for 2015.

Bio-dynamically farmed since 2009, d’Angerville’s burgundies are brimming with pure fruits and fine tannins. Stems are not used and new oak is kept to a minimum (20% new). While ebullient in their youth, with time they unwind to reveal their savoury layers and inner sanctum. These are stunning expressions of Volnay.

We have a handful of these beauties to offer, we wish we had more to go around. If you’d like to buy a bottle please send us your wish list and we’ll do our best.

2015 Marquis d’Angerville Volnay Frémiet 1er Cru  $237
‘ Blackberry, licorice and violet on the perfumed nose. Fine-grained and suave, but with terrific inner-mouth floral lift giving the middle palate a sense of energy. The wine’s finishing sweetness is leavened by saline minerality and noteworthy grip. Really spreads out to saturate the mouth; an outstanding example of this premier cru.’ Stephen Tanzer www.vinous.com

2015 Marquis d’Angerville Volnay Champans 1er Cru $298
‘Youthfully imploded aromas and flavors of blackberry, cassis and licorice show no roasted character…This insidiously palate-saturating wine finishes with outstanding slatey persistence and grip. I would imagine that this will be long-lived but will it ever really shut down in the bottle? It’s hard to imagine that this fruit was harvested on September 4. 2015 Marquis d’Angerville Volnay Clos des Ducs 1er Cru $406
‘Alluring, expressive aromas of black cherry, minerals, black pepper and spices … outstanding silky refinement, then shows uncommon saline energy in the mid-palate, with wonderfully tactile flavors of red and black fruits, spices, flowers and minerals. The stunning whiplash of a finish conveys pronounced soil-driven minerality, a sexy suggestion of torrefaction and great length. This wine and the Champans deliver a magical combination of silkiness, density and energy. Stephen Tanzer, www.vinous.com January 2018
