This 6 pack has been put together to give you one less thing to think about on your day of festivities, except for when to drink them! To start, a super fresh and red fruited champagne for brunch. Moving towards the main meal we’ve selected a lively rosé from the Loire with an abundance of wild berries, perfect as an aperitif. When you’re ready for some seafood it’s time to open semillon from an iconic Hunter producer, a match of perfection! Moving into reds we kick off with a lifted pinot/shiraz blend from the Yarra, deftly up to the task of cured meats and cold smoked ham. Lastly, when it’s time to wheel out the cheese cart there’s a fleshy dolcetto with fine grained tannin and of course a sparkling shiraz from iconic producer Best’s of Great Western.
NV Christophe Brut Tradition Blanc de Noirs, Marne Valley France $59
Kick the day off in style with a glass of bubbles over a continental brunch of smoked salmon and pastries. Made from pinot noir this grower champagne offers up immediate pleasure with a ripe core of red orchid fruits, smoke, mandarin peel and wet stone. Finely framed with an electric acidity.
2016 Patrice Colin Vin Gris Rosé, Loire Valley France $32
It’d be amiss of us not to include a crunchy rosé and this vin gris from France’s Loire Valley is a top example. A wonderful hue of grilled salmon reels you in from the outset. The palate is subtly textured and immediately moreish, with blood oranges and red berry fruits and an oyster shell-like minerality on the finish.
2009 Mount Pleasant Elizabeth Semillon, Hunter Valley NSW – $32
Aged semillon from the Hunter is a brilliant accompaniment to seafood. Citrus aromas of lemon and grapefruit pith are complimented by flint and toasty notes. Tropical fruits get the party started in the mouth, with fine and cleansing acid throughout giving lovely drive.
2017 Medhurst YRB Pinot Noir / Shiraz, Yarra Valley Vic $34
Bright and lifted aromatics of red currant and blueberry with hints of white spice lure you. There’s sleek texture on the palate with those berry fruits at the fore and crunchy acidity on the finish. It’s tough to stop at just one bottle.
2016 Olek Bondonio Dolcetto d’Alba Piedmont, Italy $42
Olek’s wines are favourites of ours here at CWS due to their great detail and purity, but also because he’s a damn lovely bloke. The 2016 vintage has produced a wine with bright aromatics and flavours dominated by black cherry and violet, tempered by fine & silty tannins.
2016 Best’s Sparkling Shiraz, Great Western, Vic $36
Synonymous with the festive season, regional characters of dark plum and spice and fine cocoa-like tannins give structure and a drying finish. A dollop of Very Old Muscat is added to the dosage adding fruit cake spice complexity, making it a perfect accompaniment to your family’s secret recipe pudding or a selection of cheese from our neighbours at the Spring Street Cheese Cellar.
