The resurgence and reinvigoration of Greek wine is imminent and we’re excited! After tasting more misses than hits in the past, the tide has turned.  Tapping into their depth of history and treasure trove of native varieties, xinomavro, assyrtiko & agiorgitiko to name a few, these original wines stand out in a sea of sameness. What’s more, they taste delicious.

As wine writer Andrea Frost in her engaging column on jancisrobinson.com.au wrote recently ‘Greece had been making wine for several thousand years (it was so deeply entrenched in their culture it had been embodied in the deity of Dionysus) when, in the 15th century, the Ottoman Empire took power. Over the course of 400 years, 4,000 years of winegrowing legacy was all but destroyed. Such a blow to a talisman of their culture must have been devastating.’

On Monday 25 June, we welcome Mihalis Boutaris from the Kir-Yianni family (a real life Greek hero!) to host a dinner featuring wines from his eponymous estate in Naoussa, as well as Domaine Sigalas of dreamy Santorini. European head chef Peter Sheldon will prepare a 4 course menu to match, starring lamb on the spit, manned by in-house butcher Simon Poole. Join us at our sister venue Recoleta for this Greek inspired feast.
