Just across the Italian border in the north-east of Italy’s Friuli region lies the small region of Kras in south western Slovenia. These border towns have been ruled my many in recent history, yet their stoic sense of identity can be expressed in wines such as this malvazija (malvasia). Herbicides and insecticides are shunned in the vineyard, and traditional methods such as skin contact (just a few days) are employed for both whites and reds. Rocky limestone soils of the region make for laborious vineyard work, but it all pays off in his beautiful wines.
Marko’s Malvasia is a beautifully crafted wine with distinctive floral notes and ripe stone fruit, the palate brimming with energy and finishing with a briny tang. Fermented for a few days on skins and aged in a combination of stainless steel and cask before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. A unique and captivating wine!
