~ G.D.Vajra is a family run winery with some of the best vineyards in Barolo and Monforte d’Alba. These wines are prized for their purity and incredible pleasure.
~ The Vajras confidentially took over Baudana in 2009. With no heirs and a plethora of producers vying for his precious, tiny crus in Serralunga (Baudana and Ceretta), Luiga Baudana entrusted his vines to the respected Vajra Family. Production is minuscule.
2015 is a vintage for the long haul; ripe lush tannins brimming with intense cores. Thanks to Barolo’s location in the foothills of the Alps, acidity is fresh. The array of flavours – florals, mountain spice, berries, blood and leather, to name a few are spellbinding!

Father Aldo is gradually taking a step back, allowing his three children Giuseppe, Francesca and Isidora to carry on the flame. The Vajras have precious holdings in the communes of Barolo and Monforte d’Alba. This family communicates its joy and pride in Piedmont wholeheartedly, all day every day.

2015 G.D. Vajra Barolo Albe $95
~ a blend of some of the best crus to make a Barolo of balance and charm
‘… soft, open-knit wine that will drink well upon release. Bright and lifted, with plenty of red cherry fruit and floral notes, the Albe captures the essence of the Vajra house style nicely. This is a terrific entry-level Barolo, not to mention one of the finest value in Piedmont.’
2015 G.D. Vajra Barolo Bricco delle Viole Barolo $158 VY LIMITED
~ Born on the highest hill of Barolo, a promontory facing south, embraced by the Alps
‘The flagship Barolo is quite understated and gracious in 2015… lithe, focused and full of energy… distinctly sinewy and tense… Kirsch, rose petal, mint and chalky notes build into a finely cut finish… a 2015 Barolo that needs time in bottle to be at its very best.’
~ With prime plots covering a tiny 2.6ha, these wines sing the soul of Serralunga. The Vajras are the current custodians of the Cerretta and Baudana crus, carry the baton of authenticity from founder Luigi Baudana.
2015 Luigi Baudana Barolo Serralunga $112
~ a blend of mostly younger vine fruit from Cerretta and Baudana
‘… smoke, tar, dark red fruit, iron and wild herbs add striking nuance to a Barolo that shows all the muscle and power of Serralunga while retaining a mid-weight feel.. cellar it for a few years. The combination of beguiling aromatics, supple fruit and good supporting structure makes for a compelling, delicious Barolo.’
2015 Luigi Baudana Barolo Cerretta $158 VY LIMITED
~ Cerretta lies opposite Baudana on the east slope of Serralunga
‘…virile, explosive power, which, among other things, shows just how different the wines of Serralunga can be. Black cherry, plum, sage, menthol and licorice hit the palate in a firm, massively tannic Barolo… embodiment of Serralunga richness and structure. What a wine!’
2015 Luigi Baudana Barolo Baudana $158
Baudana is located on the western slope of Serralunga and belongs to a fine cluster of vineyards among Lazzarito, Parafada, Rionda, Falletto and Francia
‘… powerful, ample and deep, with tons of brightness to play off the sweet red cherry and pomegranate fruit. Already quite expressive… a very bright future. Even today, its balance is simply impeccable. Within the context of the year, the 2015 Baudana is one of the most polished refined wines readers will taste.
